Just casually downing an entire pineapple as I write this. “Big fruit” has been infiltrating my diet desires recently, and I’m learning moderation is not my strong suit when it comes to food BUT…it could be worse. I’ve enjoyed trying some exotic fruits lately as well, or at least exotic to me! I’ve had papaya flavored things before, but never a fresh papaya! And the flavored things probably just tasted like pink or whatever it looked like. This thing was MASSIVE! Hella seeds. Pro tip: do not eat an entire 4lb papaya in one sitting. Also it does kinda stink, but tastes great! Would recommend.

I tried a few different mangoes, but they weren’t anything to write home about. Still have no clue how to eat these guavas with all these tiny hard seeds in them. And don’t even get me started on the cherimoya! The cherimoya, or “custard apple” was described by sir Mark Twain as being “the most delicious fruit known to men”. Not sure about the ladies. My local grocery store described it as a vanilla flavored banana. Well…I like both those things. I’m in! Sure it’s in the exotic fruit section (which my wallet warns me about), but there are two of them in a discounted 50% off bag. How bad could it be? HoW bAd CoUlD iT Be?!?!????!! $11 for these two palm sized ugly vanilla bananas! $5.50 EACH….WITH the half off. Still recovering. Anywho, I peel off the soon to rot skin, pull it apart, and find 54 humongous seeds taking up the majority of this fruit that I assume was walked here by the kings of Dubai. It did taste good, but mr. Twain did oversell it a bit. 2/10, would not recommend.

Alright, enough of the fruit adventures. I keep calling that cherimoya ugly because of all the BS around it, but on the same trip that led me to such a discovery, I showed a bit of my ugly self as well. I usually stay decently well behaved in public with my thoughts and actions. But this particular grocery run, I noticed a bit of my judgmental mind showing up. I was looking at some people in the store, saying to myself, “I bet we would get along” or “get a load of this dude…excuse me sir YOUR EGO IS SHOWING!” or “I wonder what came first, the Karen or the haircut?”. Just absolute inexcusable nonsense swirling in my noggin from prejudging everyone I came across. My usual strategy is to look at everyone with love, but not this day.

I came home thinking about this scenario, and it stuck with me for some time. As I was working through these feelings in meditation, I glanced over at my alter and saw a small picture of baby Mills from when I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. I keep this close to my zen corner to remind myself of my childlike curiosity, playfulness and innocence in a world that I often take too seriously.

This particular situation made me realize that we are all just adult versions of children. Even if all of my first look judgements in the grocery store were all 100% spot on (and there’s no way that’s true), I shouldn’t be seeing this grumpy old man, assuming he tells everyone to get off his lawn. That’s the outer skin of this weathered, severely aged cherimoya. Inside, this dude is actually pretty sweet! Perhaps a bit over ripe, but sweet nonetheless. I doubt he was in kindergarten telling people to stay off his lawn. And if he was doing that, it would arguably be the cutest thing you ever did see.

Somewhere along the way from kindergarten to “adulthood” (larger children), that cute sweet little kiddo stopped playing in the dandelion fields, cut her hair like that, and started complaining at every chance she got. She may have actually earned the nickname “Karen”, making her more upset, further amplifying the issue and spiraling into a seemingly never ending bad mood. But she wasn’t always like that. She, along with the grumpy old man and the dude that was strutting his attitude all over the place, were all put through the friggin ringer. Some had a wicked upbringing. Some were bullied. Others were abused. Some have been in and out of jail, war, drug abuse…you name it. All in the past handful of years since they were in kindergarten.

As I’m passing them in the store, I see the outer shell of this child…weathered, rode hard and put away wet. Treating them as my judging mind would have it, simply at face value, would certainly amplify whatever it is that I see in them. Skipping all the rough parts in life that led to whatever negative thoughts I have about them and not even acknowledging the adorable, sweet child they still have inside them.

On the couple grocery trips since this realization that we all came from young, I try to look at everyone as they were in kindergarten. You would never look at a small child and think “eww…why are you acting like that”. I mean sure, some little tikes resemble actual demons, but most are alright. And when they act out, it’s expected. They’re still learning the ways of the world, actions vs consequences, etc and they’re just doing their best with what they have. When we see someone as an adult however, all that goes out the window. You should have everything all figured out damnit! NO MERCY! NO GRACE! But I think if we all treated everyone with the same love and kindness as you would a child, because they are just a child plus some years…that empathy, compassion and tender loving will go a long way for them and for you.

Shipping charges: My shipping rates have gone up TWICE in the past few months, so I’ve updated the shop to reflect recent increases. For most smaller orders less than 1lb, there is a flat $5 shipping cost, up from $3. Most larger orders up to 20lb ship for a flat rate of $15, up from the previous $12. I try to keep these extra costs down as much as I can because I know we’re all on a budget, but every now and then I need to keep up with what I’m being charged. The Mycosino dice roll shipping costs have also been updated to reflect an average shipping cost, since the weight can vary. If your winnings end up costing a bit extra to ship, I’m happy to cover it. If your shipping cost is lower than what you actually paid, I’ll make it up with some extra goodies included 🙂

What is that you say? The dice rolls aren’t complicated enough? Say less! These dice rolls make sense to me and the folks that have been around for a while, but if you’re newer here or just curious how they work and I’m not explaining it well enough, feel free to reach out and I’ll try to simplify it for ya (@TheMycoVet also does a helluva job). There are currently two options that are vague…#8 on both the active $20 roll and gourmet $20 roll, mention “surprise goodies”. What the hell is even that? We just don’t know. But going forward, we’ll have a separate roll if you choose/roll one of these options. The “surprise goodies” will be determined by this extra roll. For example, if you roll a “1” on the separate roll for this option, you’ll likely have an “ahh, nice” reaction to the surprise goodies. If you roll an “8”, that reaction may be more of a “WHOOOOA DUDE HOLY MOSES!!!” with varying levels of goodies in between. Roll on my friends.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s still cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!

For the past couple months, I’ve been posting a *loose* schedule of one or two processes I plan on running for that day, but it seems that in wizardland, schedules are made to be broken.
