We did it!!

We hit 1,000 members on Discord! WHOA!! Feels like just yesterday when @TheGovernorTTV nudged me to hop on what I thought was only a gaming app, changing the lives of many for the absolute best. Thank you man!! We’ve all been able to connect with countless amazing souls on this platform, create some incredible bonds and make friends for life. It really is a big family up in there! Everyone helping each other out, sharing stellar genetics and just vibing high. I appreciate every single one of you and I wouldn’t be here, doing what I love the most, without the support from all of you. You guys frickin’ rock!!

Personal rambles:

I’m sure most of us have heard before that mushrooms are more like people than they are like plants. They absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide and we share roughly 50% of our DNA with them! Naturally, whenever I have a thought about how they react with their environment, how unique they are, or anything in between, my mind starts relating that to us humans.

We often get excited when we see an anomaly within the mushroom kingdom…or at least I do. If I see a funky mushie with ears or one that’s maturing upside down or any kind of mutation really, I’m fascinated. One of the most common traits I see mycologists going for are the leucistic and albino mutations. We may look at a nice canopy of mainly standard brown cubes, but notice just one that appears snow white. How gorgeous! I must honor you and continue your lineage to produce more of you, you sweet thang! We’re only going on visual appeal with the white fruit in this case, because visual anomolies are what attracts us to that particular genetic. But each individual mushroom in that canopy has it’s own personality of sorts. Sure, they all come from the same village, but some are short and fat (not judging), some tall and skinny, maybe a pure white one here and there, or one that is inverted. Even the traditional ones have their own vibe…we just can’t see it.

In relating that to people, we may be attracted to this person or that person without knowing them, simply because of how they look. That person may be physically attractive (ooh la-la) or may have decorated their avatar in a way that represents your interests as well. But a lot of times, just like with the mushrooms, we judge a person based on looks alone without really giving them a chance to express their incredibly unique personality. We may pass up on an opportunity to have a conversation with them because we don’t immediately see commonalities with them or we pre-judge in one way or another. But what we see on that outer shell really has nothing to do with who they are inside. Sure, that dude is an albino human, or that girl over there is super cute, or maybe that lady just seems too old to find any common ground with. But these people that we inevitibly judge based on appearance can have the most to offer and we don’t even know.

I was out with a small group of friends last week and at one point we just looked at each other and were fascinated at how different we all were, yet so incredibly close as friends. We don’t look at a mushroom or a tree, and say “you’re too this or that” (stealing from sir Ram Dass there), we just accept the inner beauty they all hold. Mushrooms are instantly our best friends. We encourage them, love them, some (I) sing to them and nuture them like the little babes they are. But when we get out in the wild, we start looking at people and creating stories as to why we aren’t alike.

Easier said than done, but I strongly encourage you to at least be open to a connection with someone you may have not seen as a “fit” at first. Help the old lady with her groceries, or just smile and wave at a stranger you see. And if you do get into a conversation with them and see they may not share your same point of view on a topic, just listen. Our opinions should be open to discussion. Reflective discussion and conversation rather than debate and confrontation. Don’t be afraid to say I don’t know! That can be the most humbling and middle-ground finding thing you can say. Explore the fact that the opposing view could be correct for a moment and you’ll better understand the other person’s point of view and where they’re coming from. If anything, it will lead to better, more open communication and understanding.

For you exotic lovers out there, we have a special blend of High Nutrient Substrate these guys THRIVE on! While exotics typically enjoy manure based substrate, this substrate is a highly nutriotious blend of minerals and micronutrients that provides what they need without using poo!

Last, but not least, a brand new one is hitting the shop this week! Gorilla Wizard is a cross of Gandalf and Makilla Gorilla that DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! It’s pretty quick and aggressive and is a fantastic study from start to finish.

We’ve decided to makethe prize list for games more of the fun/novelty type items, leaving genetics and mycology supplies for the actual giveaways. Still keeping an eye on shipping. Some transits are smooth, others are still a bit slow. I did a little digging this week and found out USPS took a contract with Amazon to deliver a ton of their stuffs, which is likely causing these massive delays, not to mention USPS being understaffed already. Starting this month, if you enter a phone number at checkout (it’s an optional field), I’ll send a picture of your order when it ships so you can be sure it is indeed on ze way! If you do not want this confirmation, do not enter a phone number.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. And not just a student of mycology but of life. And that leads me into my last point. I think everyone that knows me knows I am a hippie from the 60s. Flower power and all that. But I think for me now it is Mushroom Power. Or at least the calmness that comes over me from the magic. I am at peace in this world. I am very happy to be here now.
