Hello again, substrate sniffers!

Mmmm there’s nothing quite like the earthy smell of fresh substrate in the morn, am I right!?! Man, I love it. CVG smells really friggin’ good, hardwood sawdust substrate smells even better and don’t even get me started on the grains boy whoooooweee!!! It’s wild how certain smells, no matter how often you smell them, can almost instantly transport you back to a time that had a significant impact on your life. The sweet smell of mycelium and substrate scratch that itch every damn time and it’s amazing.

It takes me back to when I first got into the hobby. I’ve had countless core memories tied to these smells, but it always takes me back to where it all began. I opened up the autoclave a few days ago, closed my eyes and just took a moment to appreciate this journey in it’s entirety.

I remember my first little sanctuary where I would tend to the babes. The music I first played for them is forever engrained in me and I still get goosebumps and sweaty eyeballs when it comes on at random. I remember how the light came in through my window. Every morning I was excited to check on this and that, tend to this over here, experiment with something I’d never heard of but had probably been done thousands of times over here. The wonder, curiosity and excitement were unmatched, and I’m so grateful to be able to harness all of these beautiful memories and emotions with something as simple as a smell so easily replicated.

I find myself from time to time saying “aahhh…the good ol days” like the elderly wizard I am. I might be thinking of the times when I first got into the hobby, for example. Thankfully, I never dreaded any mycology work or felt like it was an obligation over a pleasure. I still wake up excited, not to have to do something, but because I get to do the things I’m passionate about that day. I mean…there’s never enough time, but I’ve always been able to connect to those original feelings as when I first started all this. But back then, I was going through an entire transformation of life goals, mindset, perspective on this reality, with so much learning and new discovery. It really felt like a rebirth of sorts that I will never forget. Ahh…the good old days.

Sometimes I’ll find myself saying that about a certain time period of…well, whatever I was into in the good ol days. Watching Kobe and Shaq dominate the NBA. Man, what a time. It’s different now. Music festivals…ahhh geeze what a time! The ones I liked got big, things changed a bit, wah wah, whine whine….the good ol days. I can look back at quite literally any point of my life with a fond familiarity, capturing the essence of something I was passionate about at that time, just like it was yesterday.

But I realized the times I would reminisce about some past love was outnumbering the amount of times I would look on this very present moment, here, now, with that same perspective. THESE are the good ol days. Right now. What, do those memories just stop right here? Am I not going to look back at THIS time right NOW and think about all the amazing connections I’ve made and places I’ve seen? All the time exploring nature and dissolving away out on a paddleboard in the middle of the lake? Or the BILLIONS of other incredible moments I’m blessed to experience in this meat suit, right here, right now?

I guarantee you, at some point, I’ll be waking up and smell something or hear a song and it will transport me back to somewhere around the time of RIGHT NOW, where I’m thinking “maaaan, those were the good ol days, huh?”. We can look back at amazing times and appreciate what they were in that moment or be saddened that those times are in the past. But the memories that we’re making right now, in this gorgeous magnificent life, are just another thing to add to that infinitely long resume we can look back on and call “the good ol days”. Enjoy the present because life freakin’ rocks…even when it sucks sometimes.

Hello my Myco Fam! This is @TheMycoVet! Just want to say how excited and honored to be here. The MW Discord was the first server I had ever joined when I started my journey last September, and boy, has it been a ride. It amazes me how a bunch of people from around the country (and even the world) can come together to share their cultivating knowledge, experiences, and even be a community of support for those in need of help. I started this journey out of a curiosity that I have always had. What else is out there? Growing up, I was glued to shows like “The Universe” and loved watching documentaries about entheogens and the wonders they allowed us to experience, and wondered what knowledge they can teach us.

My first experience as a 17/18-year-old dumbass did not go so well, lol. I truly believe it was because I did not have the right intentions. But, I was still very interested, and my curiosity grew bigger. As the years went by and I became slightly more mature, I had also realized the healing power that this wonderful medicine can offer. Looking for something other than pills, and after listening to an episode of Joe Rogan, I began my research. Holy shit! You can grow these? With this newfound knowledge, I jumped into the rabbit hole feet first. I was very reluctant to start growing. Months went by, and I was still on the fence. But one day, I shit you not, a mushroom grew in my backyard. Four years of living here, and that has never happened. I had no idea what species it was, but I took that as a sign. I finally pulled the trigger, and here we are, lol.

Having spent most of my life in the military, the camaraderie is something I really missed. Going through the good and bad times together, solving problems, and just shooting the shit builds bonds that are hard to explain unless you’ve experienced them. That’s honestly what I’ve found in the Milly Wyco server. While it’s obviously not the same as serving, it has that same feeling of belonging. A group of people who genuinely enjoy helping each other, celebrating each other’s successes, and having each other’s backs. It’s become more than just a Discord server. I have been lucky to actually meet some of you in person, and had a GREAT time. It is pretty cool that people from different walks of life, who have never met, can come together and act like we had been friends for years. Hopefully, in the near future, we can get together again, along with some other members of the community.

So, to close this out since Milly is waiting on me, lol, just know that you have joined something very special. If you are new and have no idea what you are doing, ask questions. I promise you everyone here is more than willing to help. You’ll probably fail your first or second try, as I did, but don’t let that deter you from trying again. Like the corny poster of a shooting star in my 8th-grade math classroom said, “You Have to Believe to Achieve.” Idk why that stuck with me, lol.

Back from a long hiatus, OG DC rejoins the shop this week! I’m pretty sure everyone who has worked with this variety has loved it for one reason or another. As I’ve observed out in the wild wild west, these fruits can be absolutely massive and tend to have some cool funky mutations from time to time!

Arrrg matey, we hit a snag! Literally hundreds of coco coir restock shipments came quick and flawlessly until this week. I suspect it got delivered to the wrong place, it may be lost for good…either way I did not get the goods. Double coir pounders (with cheese) set to land on Friday and I’ll have all CVG orders out with tracking first thing Saturday. Sorry for the delay!

I caught a mistake on some labels I printed last week! I made half of a sheet of Ps. Galindoi ATL7 and forgot to change the header back to “Cubensis” for the other half sheet of B+ labels. If you received a B+ recently that says “Ps. Galindoi” at the top, know that it is indeed the B+ cubensis variety. *queue Hoobastank* I’m not a perfect perrsooooon!

We added a new channel on Discord under the “Entertainment Discussion” section, titled “The Mycelial Veil” where you can view, read, play along, and add to @Devilsinmydetails magical fantasy land that is THE MYCELIAL VEIL! Man has spent a lot of time putting this together and it really shows! It was meant to be a continuing collaboration of sorts where other creatives can add to the lore and get lost in this wonderland. As of WEDS 7/15, this is what is good to go for supplies! Almost everything in the shop is “made to order”, meaning I make it once I get the order, so it’s as fresh as can be when you get it.
