Austin has been in QUITE the drought lately, but the on/off rain over the past week or so has helped tremendously and really made a lot of nature POP around here! I’ve noticed a ton of wildlife coming out to say hello as well….my deer are back! Some say they only like me for my corn, carrots and apples, but I know better. We go way back. Pretty sure this is one of Ned’s descendants and heard the good word about papa Milly’s tasty treats.

And that little patch of cacti to the left of Ned Jr’s noggin bloomed in just 1 day! This deer pic was taken yesterday and this is what I woke up to this morning on that same gaggle of cacti:

This past week has been an incredible journey for me personally, as I’m sure it was for a handful of you as well! @its_me was kind enough to meet up for lunch this past Thursday to kick it all off! How have I never had pho before? No clue. But I’m sure I’ll have it 10 more times before I see you next, even if that’s only a week or two (one can hope). A truly radiant and amazingly positive soul I am honored to share this space and time with. What a gem and a true pleasure to link up with. Rock on brethrenite.

Over the weekend, my heart and mind were ON FIRE being able to hang out with some of our beloved community members for (and before) the mushroom conference here in Austin! Anyone and everyone in the Discord community can vouch for the highest of vibes from @TheMycoVet, who we all know is always eager to help, articulate, generous and thoughtful to the MAX. Sometimes you don’t really know the true persona of someone you’ve only spoken with online, but this man far exceeded these sentiments. Being able to get together and have nearly non-stop flowing conversation was a dream come true and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

I didn’t really know sir @WiseCaps too well until this weekend, but thanks to TheMycoVet’s incredible recruiting skills (go figure), we were able to connect like we knew each other our entire lives. I’m absolutely positive I go back multiple lifetimes with all these guys. We shared stories, teks, recipes, experiments…you name it. He organically mentioned hanging with @SporeDaddy a while back, not even knowing he and I were friends before the spore thing even got going. Hilarious, kind hearted, and of course ALWAYS welcome back for a continuation of amazing hangs.

I’m no stranger to everyone’s favorite old hippie, @BingoSmoke, but I was over the Monty Moon being able to spend some time with this dude 3 days in a row. Since he’s a semi-local fella, I see him from time to time and it’s always a wholesome time. This is your grandpa’s favorite grandpa. No matter how old as dirt he may be, if you ever meet him, and I hope you do, there is no age gap. You can’t help but smile when you talk to him and he reciprocates. Much to learn from this wise old sage. Legend has it, he has over 3 TRILLION stories! Miss you already and love you, Bingo.

We were joined by @wanderluster- another local duderino and fellow long lost brother, and my first Austin friend and close homie, Ethan for a pre-show hang on Saturday. Wanderluster stops on my side of town from time to time always bearing gifts, a warm smile and exuding love from every pore. He’s a man you truly want in your corner, and I’m blessed to have him in mine. A true seeker of knowledge and servent of humanity. Love you always, man.

Ethan- he’s alright. Seriously though, this guy has stuck with me through ALL the ups and downs and is one of my closest friends here in Austin. We formed a friendship back in the Reddit days when I was in Ohio, and could very well be the reason I’m currently in Austin. I had a few considerations of where I wanted to move to, and he encouraged Austin to be more aligned with my vibe and boy was he right. He opened his home to me, showed me around, and treated me with the utmost brotherly love from day 1. Really glad we get to hang as often as we do, man. All the love right back at ya.

At the conference on Sunday, @TheMycoVet, @BingoSmoke, @WiseCaps and I were like kids in a candy store on Christmas morning that also happens to be your birthday. As you would expect, the mycelial network was in full force, bringing the right people together. I was able to link up with a handful of local friends there and meet some incredible new ones as well. I was riding that bliss train so frickin hard that I ditched my phone and completely forgot @MWftwMF was going to the conference as well. Super unfortunate we didn’t get to hang together, buuuut, as you would expect from the mushrooms, we did, accidentally and organically, connect and “meet” each other in the swiftest of ways. It still happened though! COUNT IT! Polymarket resolved to yes. I was wearing a shirt that wouldn’t land with the non-myco squad, but was perfect for this event. The majorest of props to @LeviathansKeeper for that sweet gift! MWftwMF was passing by and hit me with a “nice shirt!”. I glanced over and peeped his amazing shirt and zinged a compliment back, but was DEEP in conversation at the moment, so that’s as far as it went. While grabbing lunch after the conference, I realized I missed the link with mr. MWftwMF and felt terrible. He happened to mention what he was wearing, and with the help of TheMycoVet, we put the pieces together and realized our paths did cross, if only briefly.

Overall, the event and all of the surrounding times were so incredibly fulfilling. Vibes were raised and continue to remain high, countless thought provoking and stimulating conversations were had, and I left feeling a stronger bond and connection to some of the greatest people we all know and love around here. I feel refreshed, motivated, and have an intense vigor and passion to stay the course and be the best that I can be at what I love to do.

One thing that I love to do that I haven’t set time aside for in a while, is experimentation. I geek out being a mad wizard scientist guy. And I see so many people taking that step into agar recently. I LOVE that. Expands the hobby in ways you can’t even FATHOM! My agar experimentation part of my brain (about 2 clicks southeast of the frontal lobe I think) was heavily activated this weekend and by golly I am jumping the absolute hell in.

My baby…my bread and butter…oh sweet MEA (Malt Extract Agar), is here to stay. Whenever I have a preference, that’s my tried and true and works with basically everything…very well. But for probably 2 months, I’m going to take the Sorghum Yeast plates and the Potato Honey plates out of the shop to focus more on some cool untraditional, all natural recipes. I like to test things for a good while before offering them in the shop, so they won’t be available any time soon, but this will help me juggle the current workload and figure out what makes these babies the happiest of all mycelium. SYA and PHA will be available today and tomorrow, but will be temporarily unavailable this weekend going forward. And if anyone wanted either of those, I’d be happy to fulfill that request no problemo…message, email, telepathy, etc.

UPDATES:

SWAMP GHOST is hitting the shop today! SG is a cross of wild Florida cubensis and a Tim Pigg isolation of “Long” Ghost (the original Ghost being a TAT iso from Jik Fibs). Other than it looking absolutely stunning (as with most TAT varieties) and having immaculate vibes, I don’t have a ton of additional info on this. We need our top wizards and witches on this one! As with most true albino varieties, this is only available in spore swabs.

Loooong overdue on this one, but please welcome the great @UnderdogArtisan to the mod squad in Discord! She is hands down one of the greatest helpers with the kindest heart and a blazing passion to see people succeed. A true MVP in my book and many others as well. USPS update: They’re trying. Not entirely sure why we’ve hit a slow point, but I’m seeing some very inconsistent transit times out there. Some packages are flying by in record time, but most are seeing a 2-3 day delay. If you receive multiple tracking emails, your order had to be split up into separate boxes to slide under the weight limit. You would expect those packages to arrive at the same time, but this hasn’t been happening lately. Always feel free to reach out to me if you need an update!

What is that you say? The dice rolls aren’t complicated enough? Say less! These dice rolls make sense to me and the folks that have been around for a while, but if you’re newer here or just curious how they work and I’m not explaining it well enough, feel free to reach out and I’ll try to simplify it for ya (@TheMycoVet also does a helluva job). There are currently two options that are vague…#8 on both the active $20 roll and gourmet $20 roll, mention “surprise goodies”. What the hell is even that? We just don’t know. But going forward, we’ll have a separate roll if you choose/roll one of these options. The “surprise goodies” will be determined by this extra roll. For example, if you roll a “1” on the separate roll for this option, you’ll likely have an “ahh, nice” reaction to the surprise goodies. If you roll an “8”, that reaction may be more of a “WHOOOOA DUDE HOLY MOSES!!!” with varying levels of goodies in between. Roll on my friends.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s still cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!

For the past couple months, I’ve been posting a *loose* schedule of one or two processes I plan on running for that day, but it seems that in wizardland, schedules are made to be broken. I think I have everything all figured out, and soon after, things get all switched around due to a few unexpected large orders (and THANK YOU for that!). So the pivot going forward is to post what common supplies I have available to ship right now, with an attempt to keep the list below updated through the week if things run out.
