My fellow mushroomicans,

Before I get to blabbing, I wanted to make a note about the 4th annual Texas Mushroom Conference this Sunday the 19th! They have speakers, workshops, vendors, and a ton of really awesome mush peoples gathering from 11am-6pm! I went a couple years ago and plan on going this Sunday, and look forward to meeting up with a few other Discord members. If you’re in the Austin area this weekend, come out and say hey!

I’ve been seeing and hearing so many success stories recently from new myco peeps kick starting their journey into mycology and it’s AMAZING! It takes me back to when I was first getting started and I’m so grateful to live vicariously through your reports. Keep em comin’!

I even see a trend with the new peoples. Their excitement is high, vibes are immaculate, their respect and care is on point, and the energy they put into their first projects is unmatched. With mushrooms being closer related to humans as they are to plants, it’s no surprise they thrive on this energy.

Picture yourself in a new environment. You’ve been pulled and jostled around all day from this task to that task, had highs and lows, and you finally land at a friend’s new home for a dinner get together. Your friend and their partner are celebrating their first home together and are very much in love. You can see it, you can feel it, and you absorb that love. Without even being a part of any conversation or situation yet, you feel welcomed and cozy. Endorphins are flowing as they are happy to see you and you are happy to spend some quality time with them. Over the course of the night, they made you an amazing meal, you had stimulating conversation, you felt seen and heard, your needs met, and everyone enjoyed your company. You forgot all about your draining day, and leave feeling refreshed, renewed and recharged.

You can imagine how that scenario would affect you differently if you arrived to the party where the hosts were in a conflict. Snarky remarks, backhanded compliments, shame and blame filling the air. If they were hiding something from you or even from each other, you may be able to pick up on it. If they got into an argument, you would have no idea what to do with your hands and you may be looking for an excuse to leave so they could settle the spat in private. You would feel cold, distant and unwelcome.

There are so many non-verbal ways we pick up energy and intent. One common effect from mushrooms is that they tend to amplify these feelings and you become more sensitive to what you and others are feeling. Your empathy is heightened, your compassion is raised and you feel energy from all kinds of different sources. I think that is a glimpse into how those mushrooms live. I’d be willing to bet they are influenced by every little energy swirl that wafts into their home! Now, some may be more resilient to interesting energies and frequencies and just do their thing. Waves just bounce off them and they stay strong. Some may be extremely sensitive to these frequencies and either burst up with bliss or cower in fear. And most are probably somewhere in the middle of these extremes. But like people, I think they are all somewhat affected by the energy they are surrounded with.

Plants are often supplemented with a special recipe of vitamins, minerals and various nutrients to help them grow or fix a problem they have. In mycology, we like to supplement grains, substrate, agar and all the supplies we use with trace amounts of similar nutrients. It’s fun! Don’t stop experimenting! We find out what works, what doesn’t, what the mushrooms respond to, etc. But I think the biggest way we can “supplement” them is with loving care. When they grow up in a loving home, with excited “parents”, watching them sing and dance and smile back at them, they ultimately absorb that high vibrational energy and IT SHOWS. Not only does it show, but it has a noticeable difference in the effects of the experience. High vibe in = high vibe out. You can then transform those high vibes and blast it directly back at them for maximum vibeage!

Seriously though, I think that’s why I see so many new people having tremendous success! Sometimes a new person will request a specific variety I feel is more on the advanced side and it turns out better than most veterans in the hobby. Whenever they check in of those pups, it’s with enthusiasm, love, and a smile you can’t wipe off their face. Little babes are 100% sharing that energy with you and are happy to see you too.

Mycelium and the mushrooms they produce are living organisms. They may not be able to have a conversation with you to convey their needs (unless you take enough), but they are affected by your attitude towards them, perhaps even more than a person or pet. Treat them with respect in every way, from preparing your supplies and working with the genetics, all the way to preparing for and diving into the experience. Love them and they will love you right back <3

Maui Platinum is back on the menu! I’ve had a few requests for this one recently, and it is back in full force! MP is also known as PES Hawaiian, and has always been one of my favorites to study! Strong genetics and great for beginners.

USPS update: They’re trying. Not entirely sure why we’ve hit a slow point, but I’m seeing some very inconsistent transit times out there. Some packages are flying by in record time, but most are seeing a 2-3 day delay. If you receive multiple tracking emails, your order had to be split up into separate boxes to slide under the weight limit. You would expect those packages to arrive at the same time, but this hasn’t been happening lately. Always feel free to reach out to me if you need an update!

What is that you say? The dice rolls aren’t complicated enough? Say less! These dice rolls make sense to me and the folks that have been around for a while, but if you’re newer here or just curious how they work and I’m not explaining it well enough, feel free to reach out and I’ll try to simplify it for ya. There are currently two options that are vague…#8 on both the active $20 roll and gourmet $20 roll, mention “surprise goodies”. What the hell is even that? We just don’t know. But going forward, we’ll have a separate roll if you choose/roll one of these options. The “surprise goodies” will be determined by this extra roll. For example, if you roll a “1” on the separate roll for this option, you’ll likely have an “ahh, nice” reaction to the surprise goodies. If you roll an “8”, that reaction may be more of a “WHOOOOA DUDE HOLY MOSES!!!” with varying levels of goodies in between. Roll on my friends.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s still cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!
