Hello again fungi friends!

First of all, I find it odd that bananas have been appearing everywhere for me since my banana feast last week. 3 different friends all brought up nanners without any instigation, Kurzgesagt uploaded a new video titled “What if it Rained Bananas”, and I literally saw a dude in a banana costume out in public. I get algorithms pushing nanas after hearing me mention it, but this is something else. Are these things always…everywhere? In the words of my dear friend, Gwen…this shit is bananas. Anywho…

This past week, I was blessed with being able to have some deep conversations with close friends that ended up being enlightening and impactful on both sides! I’d like to share a few takeaways from these conversations that really made me think or reflect in a positive way and hope they get your thinker thinkin’ too!

One situation we were going back and forth on was how sometimes it’s difficult to be able to distinguish between intuition and emotion. I’ve felt in the past that things were aligned and true, only to reflect on that later on to see that it was just a desire I was trying to justify. When that happens, sometimes I feel like I lose trust in myself. When those circumstances appear again in a similar form, I reflect on the first occurrence and tend to be a little more skeptical of the authenticity of my feelings. God forbid things go down the same was as they did the first time! I noticed I was becoming hardened toward certain situations, continuing the mistrust between my physical/ego self and spiritual/soul self.

Mushrooms help us tame the ego, and a lot of times we throw around terms like “ego death” and are on a damn mission to keep that ego in check, which is crucial, but we do need ego! We just need a healthy balance. When things start to get out of balance with your ego, there can be a disconnect with your higher self, further amplifying that mistrust. The greater the distance between your physical self and your higher self, the more you tend to lean on the ego side of things, and in my case, not even entertain similar opportunities because I’ve been burned once or twice (or 7 times) in the past. That’s not to say lean completely toward emotion and ignore all logic…again, balance is the key. But closing off that higher self is, in a way, disconnecting from the part of yourself that you really NEED to trust.

The advice I got from my broski was to sit in meditation and separate the two selves, and just have a talk with each other! The two need to work together to be guided properly. Have your “innie” talk to your “outie” and build that relationship back up in a healthy way. Say “hey man, we need to sync up! We’re a great team, we just have to trust each other!” Still take the lessons you learned the first time around to make better decisions and progress toward your goal in a more effective way, but don’t shut out that higher self thinking it will lead you astray. Take the wisdom you gained from the first experience and improve on it. If you constantly shut that part of yourself off, you’re training yourself to not trust intuition, and closing yourself off as a defense to protect yourself.

Life is all about experiences and how we learn from them. Don’t think you just “know better” than your higher self and keep yourself from opportunities because you’re afraid to “fail” the same way as before. Allow yourself to experience all the love and learning and mistakes along your wonderful journey and don’t lose trust in yourself.

Another part of the conversation with this same duderino, I mentioned how surprisingly deep I’ve been getting in meditation lately, and how I felt a bit undeserving. I mean I welcome it, don’t get me wrong! But there have been times in my life where I felt like I was really cookin’. Meditation, breathwork, yoga, reading books, working out…that kind of stuff. I felt like I had a super solid routine. I was diligent and consistent, and “getting deep” was more expected when these things were aligned. And I still do all of these things that I know are good for my soul, but I’m a bit more lax about them now. Some days really do feel like I’m checking them off a list rather than having an actual flowing grooving routine to it. I’m working on it! But my buddy realized I may have been a little hard on myself, thinking I’m not putting in the work to get these deep spiritual results. He presented an analogy where through all these years of doing my practice, adjusting and fine tuning, it’s like I was digging a hole (not in a negative way). Even if I stray away from that hole and perhaps some leaves or debris falls in, the hole is still there, and it takes a lot to regress and actually fill in that hole. The progress has been made! Now, when I return to that hole (with my practice), I’m essentially picking up where I left off, just building on the progress that I’ve already made within myself. I love that! Don’t be too hard on yourself if you “fall off” your practice. It’ll still be there when you return <3
