Well helooo masters of intuition and awareness!

We’ve been focusing on one chakra each week, starting with the ROOT at the base of the spine, all the way up to the CROWN at the top of the head. Today, we’re focusing on the 6th of the 7 chakras, the “Ajna” or THIRD EYE chakra!

Last week for the throat chakra, I vaguely mentioned some very interesting synchronicities and how I was refraining from sharing specifics because that’s usually how they cease to exist. I am a firm believer of this, as I have unintentionally shut them down several times simply by sharing this excitement with others, but wanted to expand on this just a tad. I don’t think the universe or whatever is guiding my growth has some vendetta against me sharing, but more so based on my personal attachment to them. I think when I keep these to myself and just observe, they flow freely. STILL, I couldn’t help but speak on a couple of them to some friends recently, soooo it’s a work in progress.

As mentioned last week, the throat chakra focuses on speaking your truth and listening, and I went on to say that some of the toughest lessons help you grow the most. My spiritual guides must have overheard my typing, as I was dealt some challenging lessons regarding knowing when to speak and when not to speak. With one of these, I actually had the conscious thought that I was going to fail one of these lessons. I had this whole situation of resistance build up in my head, and accepted the fact that I was going to fail this lesson and possibly spend another week on my throat chakra. It took a day to build up some courage to have a difficult but necessary conversation, but finally (and reluctantly), I grew the balls to just got for it, and I am SO glad I did. What could’ve led to resentment, a change in relationship with a great friend, turned into ultimate acceptance and open communication, making our bond even stronger. It’s really amazing how much I feared having a conversation with someone I trust, just because of what I had built up in my head about how the conversation would go, yet it turned out to be so simple and healing. This was a turning point for me, and gave me the confidence to approach future difficult situations with confidence knowing it probably won’t be as terrible as the worst case scenario I imagined. Just wanted to share! Open communication is crucial, and when approached with love…everything will be alright. The throat chakra has always been a challenging one for me in one way or another (always different), but when I “pass the test”, some amazing things come from it.

Onto the THIRD EYE chakra! This is an exciting one, and when I first learned about different chakras, this is the one I felt pulled toward. Maybe because it seems to be an exciting one in the sense of what can be “unlocked” or improved, and as a youngin, I wanted to dive straight in. But realizing all chakras are equally important and how they should be harmonious with each other, I’m glad I went through the lower chakras before getting to this one. Many people think this is where the magic happens, and I would have to agree, though I would say go into this chakra focus, and all others, with no expectations at all. The color associated with this energy center is indigo, which I consider to be a beautiful dark purple of the royalist hue! So beautiful. Change those lights, watch some Barney, grab your eggplants and purple grapes, purple potatoes and carrots and PURPLE CAULIFLOWER?! WHAT!?! Let’s dive in.

The third eye chakra is associated with our “sixth sense”. It is the center of our intuition, spiritual insight and intuition. When it is not aligned, we focus only on our intellect and logic and reject all spiritual aspects of ourselves. We don’t trust our intuition and miss many cues guiding us along our path. When it is in harmony and balanced, we trust our intuition, and more importantly, ACT ON IT! Acting on this intuitive sense actually strengthens it, where ignoring these signs can dull and diminish that experience. When this chakra is open and continually cultivated, we can experience higher self-confidence and esteem, improved memory and capacity to learn, fair judgement, and efficient concentration and focus. Who doesn’t want all these crazy awesome benefits!?! It can also help enhance empathy and increase problem solving skills!

I always emphasize meditation and yoga practices with these chakras, but noticed I have been neglecting breath work! Not just speaking on it, but doing it myself. Breathwork can be extremely grounding and help you center your mind. Something as simple as closing your eyes and focusing on your breath can be the reset you need to your day, to be less reactive, more calm, and even more energetic with certain techniques, and I feel breathwork vibes pretty damn well with the third eye chakra. When I do a simple breathwork technique, I like to inhale through my nose and completely fill my lungs, then take another quick gasp and fill my chest, then slowly release. If you need something to focus on, try making your exhale twice as long as your inhale and repeat. Part of the reason why smoking is said to calm the nerves and reduce stress is simply because of this regulated breathing (just try it without the smoke!). For slightly more advances practices (still nothing crazy), check out the short videos on the Breath of Life and the Breath of Fire in the YouTube playlist linked below. Start your day with these and I can almost guarantee you’re going to see some incredible results. The first 8ish minutes of your day, your brain is in the theta brainwave state, tapping into your subconscious, where this work is immensely impactful, so doing this right away in the morning adds a super magnificent boost to your mood and thought processes. If you have a human partner or a pet partner, it’s pretty cool to try and sync up your breathing together and just…see what happens!

Ok, this one might sound like I’m off my rocker (did anyone think I was sane over here?), but right after yoga (see short guided yoga practices on the playlist as well), I like to lay down on my back and place a stone on the area of the chakra I’m working on. The third eye chakra is located just above your brow betwixt your eyes, and one of the stones/crystals that coincide with it is amethyst. Doing breathwork while having this stone on your forehead adds focus and intention to opening your third eye. Woo-woo as hell I am and I embrace it! Using some essential oils like lavender, or cleansing your space with sage or Palo Santo can really set the mood for growth and positive intention. *For bonus points, head outside for some perennial sunning to give your FOURTH eye a tan!*

Incorporating a mudra, or symbolic gesture of the hands (I call them gang signs), can help deepen your meditation practice and hone your focus into your third eye as well. Add in the affirmation of “I see” to your practice and focus on your third eye to blast that baby open!

THIS PLAYLIST on YouTube has a whole gaggle of helpful videos on the third eye chakra. Some guided meditations, a few quick yoga routines, and a couple cool ones explaining how to get the most our of your third eye chakra focus this week. Some of the frequency ones, and the OM chanting video, are pretty powerful if you follow along! Either meditate with earbuds on one of the sound baths or actively chant the mantra “OM” and some wild things can happen. I’ve gone deep with these in the past and felt my entire body vibrate pretty quickly into the exercise.
