Hey doods and doodettes!

Well, well, well…I finally got around to it! Every single week, we launch into a fresh episode of Wednesday chaos, leaving me, the amazing mods, or @TheMycoVet (thank God for that man) trying to explain the madness around here. I said for a good while that I should put together some kind of “how-to” guide to navigate these confusing times. This is really just a rough draft that I’m sure will be refined by others in the coming weeks, but at least will cover some of the common questions about what’s going on around here on Wednesdays.

HOW-TO WYCO WEDNESDAY

I realized when writing this, that I’ve continued making changes here and there on the website, we’ve been implementing some new things on Discord, I make new whacky rules all the time with the dice rolls, and after a while, something is completely different than when it started and it’s not always easy to understand. With how Discord has been growing with all these truly incredible people, I figured I would take this week to explain the weird that is me and a little about why things are they way they are. I appreciate you being here <3

First of all, I’m Milly. Helloooo. You can call me Milly, Mills, Sporecaster Supreme, el duderino, etc. I’m not picky. I started writing a little blurb on Wednesdays when I would post any weekly updates about what was new in stock, and continued from there, being a scheduled journal session of sorts. I’ve never written anything ahead of time, so it’s always just what I’m thinking about right before 5:00 on Wednesdays. Sometimes that’s nice to get a genuine blurb, other times it’s a bit cringy to think back on, sometimes my blood sugar magically crashes when I sit down to type and other times I’m on top of the world. It’s never to lecture or preach at you, as my conscious would constantly worry, but to share any interesting thoughts or different perspectives with the community, even if not about mycology. It’s always authentic, and authenticity and human connection is something that stood out to me when I was first starting this gig.

The more I was passed on from this automated department to that robot and back to this motherboard, the more frustrated I got. That’s still the case (I’m working on it). I always said if I had my own company or brand or voice of any kind, I would make sure NOT to do those things. I would treat every single soul as someone I loved, because I truly do. I would never send someone something I would not be excited to receive if I were them. No shortcuts. No gatekeeping. No decisions made that only affect the dollar. Put my heart, mind and SOUL into a passion, not a job.

And to date, I can honestly look in the mirror and know I have been true to my promises when I started. I’ve worked my ass off and still say “wellll…it’s not really work” because I love it so much. I want to connect with each and every single person, just like I did in the Reddit days before I even had a website. I’m ALWAYS happy and eager to share ANY recipe for agar, liquid cultures, substrate blends…you name it. At one point, we only had BRF cakes! We SHARE knowledge to help each other improve in the hobby. We spread spores and cultures far and wide for MAXIMUM DISCOVERY muahahaha!! Anything you get from me is yours to keep, trade, give, sell, doesn’t matter. Spread it!

Alright…slight pivot here…Just re-read those past couple paragraphs and I’m like “damn dude, is your back ok from patting it so hard?” and well…that’s human stuff. That’s me stuff! I’m usually super self conscious about writing literally anything for anyone to see. 7 or 8 years later and still not comfortable. But I’m working on taming that judgmental voice, and coming out like this and saying “hey, I’m just a dude” somehow lets me work through it. So thanks for listening.

One slightly unfortunate thing about having “just a dude” on this side of things, is, well, I’m…just a dude. Last week, I shut down Milly Wonka’s factory on Wednesday night excited that I had everything ready to ship the next day (usually there are a couple straggler orders that I don’t get fired off on Thursday) But classic genius dude move…I thought I was going to be an Indian curry master FOR REAL and ended up giving myself some kind of Turmeric poisoning. I thought it was the cyclopse spore Taco Bell lettuce disease at first, but after reviewing some symptoms mixed with me going rogue on the Indian spices, it was clear I am very white and had no business cooking and eating like that. Had I stuck to the recipe, I would’ve been fine, but I did dude shit and took it too far.

Most orders that I intended to ship last Thursday (Weds orders) didn’t go out until Friday, and that’s because this dude was too good to measure spices correctly. Or sometimes, I’m suspect of a batch of something and I want to test it again before sending it off. But know that if you order ever is late to ship, there were no corners cut, it was made properly and with alll the love. It’s never due to laziness or carelessness.

Anywho, thanks for sticking with this dude for as long as you have and know that I will always love you to the moon and back! Hug a tree, call your mom, beware of curry. <3

There is a past version of me who would be proud of who I’ve become, and surprised all the same. This old version of me had no idea who I was, where I was going, or how to manage my headspace, thoughts, and emotions. He angered easily, was impulsive, and was selfish. I believe that mushrooms have a way of finding us when we need them most.

​I’m in my late 30s, and about two years ago, I discovered mushrooms. I remember my first experience quite vividly: a 3.5-gram dose that brought me to complete peace. I felt my breath flowing through my entire body, and a voice awoke in my head that was never there before—the voice of my higher self. I was shown that we are all one, that this experience is a training ground for the soul, and that our true purpose is to spread love and light. ​

The days and weeks following this first experience were bliss. I found myself no longer procrastinating; I felt positive, purposeful, and capable of conquering the world. I adopted a new approach to life, as if I were the main character, and I started having fun with it. My old behaviors of avoiding people soon turned into a desire to form new connections, share my story, and pass on the medicine. ​It’s almost as if fate had a plan for me.

I started meeting amazing people in the community and finding my way into various Discord servers—server after server, until I found the famous Milly Wyco server. I quickly realized this community was something I had always needed but never had. ​After making many new friends and connections there, I began honing my mycology craft.

I’m still far from an expert and learning every day, but my goal is to keep growing, learning about myself, and documenting my journey. I want to share it to help anyone curious about the opportunities mushrooms offer for our psyche, and to showcase the positive benefits and life-changing effects they can have. ​I am extremely fortunate to be a part of this community, and I’m honored to write and share this short piece of my story.

Man has spent a lot of time putting this together and it really shows! It was meant to be a continuing collaboration of sorts where other creatives can add to the lore and get lost in this wonderland.
