As many of you have seen in the past week, I added a bot by the name of “MEE6” to the Discord server. If you’ve had the honor of interacting with this dude, you see it responds to your questions and such, usually starting with something something “noble companion”, followed by a wall of text with a shout out to tacos somewhere in between.

My technical ignorance led me to believe I would be able to play around with this thing for a while to test it’s features, and deploy at a set time, buuuuut I added the thang and MEE6 was off to the races greeting people and spewing all kinds of taco facts. I figured I’d leave it in the server for now since some have been earning points and xp for various things and it lets me see how it works and what needs to be adjusted.

The overall goal for having MEE6 in the server is to make things more fun and exciting around Discord and award members for community involvement with a rewards system of sorts. This bot has a TON of features at our disposal that I think can be a benefit to everyone, but if it ends up being more aggravating than it’s worth, it shall be banished. YOU HEAR THAT, MEE6! NO MORE TACOS FOR YOU!! I’m going to be making some tweaks and additions to the thingy over the next few days and will likely have a poll next week to see if it stays or goes.

So far, I think the only actual feature/app I’ve seen used with members has been the leveling app. It’s pretty basic…you earn points the more you interact with the community in ways of posting and replying/commenting, and MEE6 will post when you “level up”. We’ll have some special roles assigned to members when the reach certain levels that give them access to special restricted channels on the server. You can use the command “/levels” and “/rank” in any channel to check your position.

Commands, such as “/levels” allow you to interact with MEE6 to show more information on that topic. For instance, to use the command “/levels”, you would type the following into the text box:

/levels

and it will provide a link that takes you to the following page, showing a leaderboard of members ranked by level. The first column shows how many times they have made a post or reply, the second column shows their experience points, and the last column shows their level.

if you use the command “/rank”, it will show your rank card publicly (you can also edit the background and theme color)

This is an example of how commands work for the leveling system, but there are a ton of other commands that I think will be super cool once we get into them! Just type the forward slash button “/” and click on the MEE6 icon on the left (blue smiley) to see all available prompts and commands you can use.

The “games” part of the bot has some fun ways to earn “Spores” on the server, and can be accessed using the “/games” command. You can play basic games, like dice, “guess the number”, roulette and rock, paper, scissors to bet from your current stash of spores and earn more. Check in once a day using the command “/daily” to start a streak and get your daily free spores! I’m in the process of making a small list of actual real world mycology items you can redeem your points for (i.e. 1,000 pts for an agar plate, etc). Feel free to play around with these features in the #games channel in the meantime so I can see where to place values for certain items.

There’s even a “/birthdays” command where you can set your birthday and see upcoming birthdays for others in the server who have set this up!

Anywho…all that was too much to try and put in the “updates” section of the post, and is still a work in progress, so expect to see some cool improvements to MEE6 coming in the next few days! I’ve set aside time this evening and tomorrow evening to work on refine some of the features, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me or a server mod know and we’ll do our best to make this community the best it can be!

MEE6.

What is that you say? The dice rolls aren’t complicated enough? Say less! These dice rolls make sense to me and the folks that have been around for a while, but if you’re newer here or just curious how they work and I’m not explaining it well enough, feel free to reach out and I’ll try to simplify it for ya (@TheMycoVet also does a helluva job). There are currently two options that are vague…#8 on both the active $20 roll and gourmet $20 roll, mention “surprise goodies”. What the hell is even that? We just don’t know. But going forward, we’ll have a separate roll if you choose/roll one of these options. The “surprise goodies” will be determined by this extra roll. For example, if you roll a “1” on the separate roll for this option, you’ll likely have an “ahh, nice” reaction to the surprise goodies. If you roll an “8”, that reaction may be more of a “WHOOOOA DUDE HOLY MOSES!!!” with varying levels of goodies in between. Roll on my friends.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s still cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!

For the past couple months, I’ve been posting a *loose* schedule of one or two processes I plan on running for that day, but it seems that in wizardland, schedules are made to be broken. I think I have everything all figured out, and soon after, things get all switched around due to a few unexpected large orders (and THANK YOU for that!).
