And happy 311 day! I think my brain caught it before I realized what day it was. My brain has been especially active this past week, thinking on this and that….nothing too important, just contemplating life, what decisions to make, people I haven’t talked to in a while that I should reach out to….just normal life stuffs.

I was on a call with a friend last night who also had a lot on his mind, and made me realize that I think ALL of us have quite a bit on the brain, nearly all the time, in completely different ways. Another friend of mine added the word “sonder” to my vocabulary a couple years ago, which is the feeling that one has, realizing every other individual has an equally complex, complicated and full life as your own. That’s stuck with me ever since, and has helped me harness more empathy and compassion toward strangers out in the wild.

While on that call, there was a storm rolling in, and I don’t know about you, but I LOVE storms! I mean…don’t damage any property and don’t damage and peoples…but as long as I can just sit back and enjoy the thunder and lightening and rainstorm, BRING IT ON!! We were reminiscing about the joys and struggles that is…life…and how sometimes, even if the FEELING isn’t necessarily pleasurable or “nice” or pleasant, just being ABLE to feel, is nice. Sometimes we feel uncomfortable, or are wrapped up in our head about whether this is the right or wrong decision, or how to handle a future situation or billions of other thoughts.

Fast forward to today. I’m sitting down, thoughts flooding my head as I try to focus on one thing at a time. I reflect on the conversation with my friend last night and how we were laughing at having SO much to do sometimes, that all you do is think about how much there is to do and get close to nothing done (I think most busy mycologists can relate). I thought back at how that storm calmed me down in a lot of ways and just quieted my mind and let me focus on something simple. That reflection was interrupted by some music I was playing in the background. I instinctually started singing along before I even realized what it was, but it was the song “Amber” by 311.

I’m not saying ALL things are synchronistic, even though that’s how it may feel sometimes. Especially with music. I mean, it all *could* be a synchronicity, but I feel like these algorithms are getting wild these days. It wouldn’t surprise me if Spotify was like “oooh, it’s Wednesday…that dude’s probably paying attention to the “signs of the universe”…hit him with 311 on 3/11. And make sure those lyrics are on point with his thoughts! Yeah, that’ll get him!” and you know what, Spotify? It did get me. Great job. 311 played on this miraculous 3/11 day, a song that starts with “Brainstorm, take me away from the norm” that I always misheard as “Rainstorm”, as I was thinking of how that rainstorm actually got me out of my brainstorm and calmed me down. Life is just freaking cool, man.

That one moment really perked me up and grabbed my attention. I’M LISTENING! I got a nudge to listen to a Ram Dass lecture after the rainstorm brainstorm calmed down, coincidentally during a grainstorm this morning (go milo!), and he put my mind at ease even further (as he does), focusing on how sometimes we take ourselves too seriously and that can get in the way of the “important” or “serious” decisions we’re trying to make. I almost instantly felt a calm take over my mind and spirit, completely grounded, thinking “Whatever happens is going to happen and that’s how it was meant to be”. Instead of trying to control everything, just make decisions that are from your heart, and let things unfold how they will. Release attachment to any outcome or desire for how you want them to be, and go with the flow.

My main takeaway from the lecture was a simple line: “What you have, you will lose. What you are, you will not lose”. That line just reminded me that it’s better to go about life collecting experiences rather than things. I’ve never been a “things” type of person anyway, but sometimes I’ll get caught up in making the “right” or “wrong” move that it will keep me from making any move at all. I’ll be too wrapped up in my brainstorm head, or run into too many challanges, or will be worried I’m making the wrong decision that I’ll completely miss out on whatever experience that was. What is “right” and what is “wrong” anyway? Lead from the heart and act with love and I think that’s all right.

Aaaaand speaking of leading from the heart and acting with love….my sweet baby Jesus, @UnderdogArtisan! This chica!! My gawwwwd what a gem in this community!! Please welcome CASPER as the newest addition to the shop! Casper is absolutely freakin gorgeous inside and out, and is a cross of Melmak, Shakti and Albino Penis Envy. Mature fruits are typically pure white, with some showing a very nice blue hue to the cap, or a blue nipple look on the top of the cap. Who doesn’t love blue nipples?!?! As with most TRUE albino varieties, these genetics are only available in swab packs.

March 4 add: Matapanas is BACK! One of my favorites to work with, and for me personally, tops the charts on the experience as well. I loved this one so much, I just kept sharing until I completely ran out of prints, but we are officially back in full force with this one! Very interesting origin story, and the lore continues with how it came to me (and how I lost it…and how it came back…and ran out…and now back again) in the item description. So so good.

We’ve revived “The Guestbook” channel on Discord! I made this channel maybe 6 months ago, as a space where you can write a little do-dad about how you got into the hobby, any healing and benefits you’ve experienced because of it, shout-outs to who got you into the hobby, etc. Just a place for praise of mycology of all kinds. I had grand plans to add my own entry when I first made the channel, but life started lifin’ and I didn’t get around to it for a while. Seeing a blank guestbook week after week as a reminder that I didn’t contribute was disheartening. I removed it, and not soon after, had a few people asking where it was so they could write something. My bad! This time it’s here to stay, blank or nah. No rush if you wish to add to the guestbook…take your time.

What is that you say? The dice rolls aren’t complicated enough? Say less! These dice rolls make sense to me and the folks that have been around for a while, but if you’re newer here or just curious how they work and I’m not explaining it well enough, feel free to reach out and I’ll try to simplify it for ya. There are currently two options that are vague…#8 on both the active $20 roll and gourmet $20 roll, mention “surprise goodies”. What the hell is even that? We just don’t know. But going forward, we’ll have a separate roll if you choose/roll one of these options. The “surprise goodies” will be determined by this extra roll. For example, if you roll a “1” on the separate roll for this option, you’ll likely have an “ahh, nice” reaction to the surprise goodies. If you roll an “8”, that reaction may be more of a “WHOOOOA DUDE HOLY MOSES!!!” with varying levels of goodies in between. Roll on my friends.

Quick note about giveaways on Discord: I love to accommodate anyone and everyone with these giveaways, but due to shipping cost and unreliability of getting through customs, these are currently for US addresses only. A 1lb box runs around $30 for shipping alone…5lb can be around $100, and some of these gives are heavier than that, running $200+ overseas, with high potential of getting stuck in customs and never actually arriving. If an international myconaut wins one of these, I’d be happy to send some prints or swabs your way…pretty much anything that can fit in a standard envelope and not have to pass through customs screening. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s still cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!
