Welcome back to the eternal sunshine of the chakra soul my friends!

Hard to believe we’re enetering into the final two chakras of the series already! Seems to me like we’re just getting into it, but I think that’s the way it should be. Every time I focus on a chakra, it feels like I’m getting into it for the first time! Not because I forget what I’ve learned in the past, but because I learn just as much the second/third/infinite times going through it as I did the first. It truly is a lifelong journey and should be treated as such.

If this isn’t your first time working with your chakras, you may notice that they are building blocks in a sense. Clearing blockages from the lower chakras help open the higher ones much easier, and revisiting a chakra you’ve worked on in the past picks up right where you left off in many ways. The teachings you’ve learned from compound on each other and the new lessons you receive this time around are there for your growth, knowing you’re ready to receive them at that time.

Before we get into some exciting things about the third eye chakra, I want to take a moment to explain some things that took me a good while to grasp, and helped my journey immensely once I realized how to properly work with them. And when I say “took a while to grasp”, that doesn’t mean “aha! Now I know…level complete!” These are things I have become aware of, and continue to work on now, and no doubt through the rest of the journey. A lifelong process I say!!

When working with some of these higher chakras, it’s pretty easy to be amazed and in awe of the fascination that comes with it. That’s passion! Excitement! Some of the phenomena I’ve experienced is just so otherworldly, it seems like I’m unlocking something and “truly awakening”…on the right track to really “opening my third eye”. And some of that may be true to an extent. I’m not trying to downplay anyone’s progression with any of this. But in my experience, I’ve gotten caught up in the magic of synchronicities and clairvoyance and really formed an attachment to these moments. This has been a recipe for slowly dulling or closing of those chakras and shutting down the magic that was so great.

Those who say “my third eye is open” or “I am awakened/enlightened” aren’t usually awakened. There is no such thing as awakened beings…only awakening beings. It’s a practice that builds, not an end result. Those on the path of awakening have a deep grasp of how much they’re still asleep. The moment you think you know something, your eyes (and mind) are closed. We should let reality unfold and live through us from moment to moment, continuing our practice. It’s better to perpetually be a student than to claim you are a master. Question everything, never stop asking questions and never stop learning.

During meditation, breath work, psychedelics or a number of ways to be present in the moment and bring your awareness to the third eye chakra, you may notice at times your third eye vibrating or pulsing just in between or slightly above your eyebrows. This is nothing to be worried about, and nothing to be fascinated by. Just notice it. Be aware of it. Welcome it’s presence and hold space for it. Be with those feelings, emotions and visions and just spend time with it, but try not to get too attached to what is happening. Be thankful, enjoy it for what it is, and continue your practice.

The third eye chakra, or Ajna in sanskrit (command/order), is your “mind’s eye”. It looks inward rather than outward and is an antennae of sorts to receive signals and is closely related to our pineal gland and pituitary gland. All lower chakras have been working on this mind’s eye to some extent, but this week’s focus is really distilling this intuition into more refined ways. Building on last week’s throat chakra, the most important part of this week’s practice is to listen and observe. Quiet the mind and take subtle cues that you receive from the universe. This likely starts out small and seemingly insignificant, but if you listen and ACT on what you are given, these signals become much stronger. I visualize it like a team of invisible guides all around us, sending minor hints and easter eggs here and there. When you latch onto one, give thanks for it, act on it if applicable and don’t get too attached, that guide says “HEY EVERYONE! THEY’RE LISTENING!!” and they invite more of their guide buddies to work with you. The longer your steak of doing this…listening, acknowledging, thanking, acting…the more apparent and frequent they become, strengthening this energy center and helping open your third eye.

The third eye chakra is all about subconscious clairvoyance and intuition, and some of the most powerful ways we subconsciously receive information or clues to work with, are through dreams. If you’re a dreamer, tap into those clues this week! Keep a journal next to your bed where you can jot down some dream happenings before they vanish! Even the most random or insignificant details of your dreams can be contemplated and worked through to find meaning that will help strengthen your third eye chakra. And those little dream guides will say “They’re paying attention! Step up the dreamscape!!”

If our third eye is dull and cold or closed off, we have trouble trusting our own intuition. We only focus on our intellect and reject the spiritual aspects of ourselves. We might not even be aware of our intuition, or carry a lot of fear in regard to our inner wisdom. But when we work with the third eye chakra, lightening and opening it up, we have a deep knowing of things we cannot physically see. We act on this feeling of inner guidance. Sometimes, I’ll finish meditation or yoga with no agenda of what to do next and just ask for insight. I HIGHLY recommend doing this sometime! You may find yourself wandering over to a book shelf, drawn to a specific book. Or glance out the window and take a stroll outside. Things like these could be the first step to getting a lot of these types of nudges from the universe, but should be done without any expectation or end result.

Using affirmations, such as “I AM” will help tune your third eye chakra this week. “I AM a radiant being of beauty, power and glory” is a good one, but fill in the blanks with your own affirmation that resonates with you. Be genuine, but know it to be true. You absolutely ARE beautiful. You ARE powerful. Add a brilliant, beautiful crystal into your practice to amplify these effects! My favorite of the third eye crystals is amethyst, but fluorite, lapis lazuli, tanzanite and a few others are also associated. Adding in a mudra (see below for this week’s spiritual gang sign) to your practice also magnifies the intention on this chakra. ANYTHING you can do to bring your awareness to your third eye will help strengthen it. Any purple (technically the color is indigo) foods you eat, clothes you wear, flowers you come across or other naturely things…GET IT! Love it! Bask in the glorious beauty! Lavender, frankincense and sandalwood are all scents that boost your third eye practice, so bust out those incense and essential oils! I like to do a smudge of either sage or Palo Santo at least weekly, and there’s no better time than when you’re transitioning to a new chakra focus.

If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!
