Warm up those glorious vocals my friends, it’s THROAT CHAKRA time!

We’re continuing up to the throat chakra this week, as we dive into the powerful higher energy centers! The throat chakra may not seem too exciting at first glance, but this chakra is crucial for all things communication…sending AND receiving! The throat chakra, in my experience, has been just as much about listening as it has been speaking. If you notice yourself feeling shy, shut down, or uneasy communicating how you feel, your throat chakra may need some attention just as much as if you’re extremely vocal but have difficulty listening and receiving communication from others.

Working on our throat chakras this week will ensure we communicate our needs and express our feelings in a healthy and effective way. This will help us speak up for ourselves, set boundaries and speak our truth, not only toward others, but speaking to ourselves as well! The next two chakras are high energy, very spiritual, and use communication within ourselves to guide us along on our path. If we cannot express these feelings and follow guidance, these higher chakras can be dull and closed off. We may feel like our thoughts keep rattling around in our heads and stew on an issue that needs to be addressed.

Addressing these issues can be extremely difficult! Having a tough conversation with a friend or colleague is never exciting, at least in my experience. But all too often, when we get down to it and communicate our feelings effectively, it’s not near as bad as how we anticipated the conversation to go.

When I’ve jumped into the throat chakra in years past, I ALWAYS seem to be faced with some kind of difficult situation where I need to communicate my feelings. Being a “why can’t we all just act from love and get along” type of person, these situations are not usually too fun to tackle. In fact, of all of the chakras, the lessons during the throat chakra are the ones I anticipate the least. But the most difficult decisions that need to be made in the least exciting situations often lead to the most growth, learning and understanding. And when all is said and done, just clearing that mental energy (and sometimes mental block) is a huge weight off your shoulders (err…throat?) in the end.

I’ve let things simmer and fester in my head, extremely resisting having a conversation with close friends, where I let my imagination run wild and create all kinds of false scenarios about how the conversation will go. Maaan…I bet they’ll just say this and that in response, or feel hurt, or hate me for it or gaaah! All kinds of nonsense. And while that’s not entirely out of the question, it usually ends up having a much better resolution than the worst case scenario I had been building up in my head. Many times, the relationship gets stronger and a tighter bond is formed. Or, if the situation or relationship is not serving you, it could lead to some long overdue closure. Either way, it’s usually something that absolutely needs to be addressed and will provide healing in the end.

On the other end of the throat chakra spectrum, listening can be experienced in many ways besides entering your earholes. Quieting the mind through tools like meditation can be extremely helpful to reduce the self-talk and mind chatter we all have on a daily basis, and will allow you to be calm and listen to your surroundings. Mushrooms, for example, cannot talk. Well…that’s debatable, especially depending on what state of mind you’re in when they communicate with you. But you can calm your mind, send and receive communication from them to find out their needs, or just send them some of your love without even speaking. Or if you’re in a place of uncertainty…maybe you don’t know what YOU need.

Try simply breathing deeply, and asking for a sign or direction. I remember a couple of years ago, I tried this just standing in my living room. My gaze was directed toward my bookshelf, and I had a pull to pick up a specific book I hadn’t read yet. The synchronicities that came from this request were so incredibly powerful and magical to say the least, and set me on a wild series of events that I will never forget. Tapping into these higher chakras seem to do that, but you have to give the universe your full attention, awareness, and LISTEN to pick up on it.

This week, try using the affirmation “I speak” when tapping into your throat chakra. Build the confidence to have those tough conversations or speak with full authenticity about how you feel. Phrases like “I speak from my heart, with all of my love” and “I speak from a place of acceptance and respect” will help strengthen your ability to communicate effectively. If you have any turquoise, lapis lazuli or aquamarine in your sacred space, try meditating or practicing a breathwork routine with one of these crystals gently resting on your throat. I like to feel the reverberation of my hum on the exhale to infuse these crystals and feel the frequency bounce back into my throat chakra to open it up and feel the energy growing brighter.

Using essential oils like lavender (helps for pretty much all chakras) and rosemary can help bring your awareness into your throat chakra as well. Normally, I like to post a grocery haul of foods matching the color of the chakra in focus, but this week all I have for ya are blueberries! But anything that is good for the throat is great to help get in touch with your throat chakra. Tea works wonders! And for me, pretty much all things creamy will help sooth your throat and connect with your chakra. Blue isn’t too common in nature, but any time you see some blue flowers, eat some blueberries or some other blue foods, or even just look up into the bright blue sky, bring your focus back into your throat chakra and feel that energy center opening and aligning with the rest of your system.

Wear blue colors, drink from your blue cups, grab those blue blankets or whatever you have to make intentional desicions to help regulate this chakra. Oh, and make sure you get your daily dose of Blues Clues (@Spacepackage) and Blue Man Group to vibe out and feel groovy! Through all of the challanges or lessons you may be faced with, it’s extremely important to have fun, enjoy the process and most of all, love yourself and everyone around you. UPDATES:

It’s warm here in Austin, but pretty chilly in…well, most everywhere else it seems. If you order agar plates, quick changes in temps can sometimes cause condensation to form on the lids. Condensation is no problem, and will not affect the performance of the plate, but it’s still nice to have a clear view of what’s going on in there! I know for me, condensation is kind of annoying. If it’s cold in your area, consider bringing your order into the garage or similar area to gradually warm up before entering your loving home to help reduce the drippity droplets!

If you receive a tracking email and no other follow up from me, that means your order is indeed shipped and on the way! Sometimes USPS misses a scan into their system and it doesn’t update until it hits the next warehouse. We have a TON of helpful peoples around the server as well, so posting a question in the “general” channel will also grab our attention and at least point you in the right direction. I’m also working with the mod team to help keep our space a bit more organized and improve the flow a bit.
