Wellllp this week shall be short and sweet! I was lucky enough to be chosen for jury duty yesterday. The email said “Congratulations”, so I MUST be lucky! In the past, I’ve shown up with 10-20 other people and been dismissed within 30 minutes. Not this time…ohhhh no. This was a 6 hour ordeal with 75 other people! How lucky! Thankfully I was not actually selected for the jury, so that was the end of my civic duty, but I came back from that experience feeling incredibly exhausted. Some of the things I wanted to accomplish yesterday were moved to today and bumped into my WW time aaand here we are.

Although I didn’t do much more than sit and listen for a full 6 hours, I was absolutely worthless for the rest of the day. Baffling! Am I getting old? Perhaps. Am I noticing a dependence to caffeine creeping in? Yes, that does need to be addressed. But one thing that a friend of mine mentioned recently is that other people in or around your personal space takes up a lot of your processing power! 30% of the nutrients and calories from your food goes to making your brain work properly, and even just being aware of someone near you is taking up a chunk of that CPU!

I say I was sitting for 6 hours, but what was going on in the noggin was something like…The dude on my left is super fidgety, the lady behind me just sneezed on my ear, oooh I like that shirt! Pretty ballsy to wear to court, but I dig it. And did he just say what I think he said? Is he trying to get out of being selected? Should I try the same strategy? Is that ethical? Did that lawyer just say orgy? (She did). I bet that guy likes mushrooms (looking in a mirror). And I’m sure the stenographer just needs something to focus on as she types, but does it have to be deep into my soul? You win the staring contest, lady! Did I just fall asleep? Uh oh. It’s amazing they don’t have coffee here. Squirrel!…and a million other unfocused thoughts.

This got me to thinking…even if I’m not around 75 complete strangers trying to understand a criminal case, if even just around one good friend, all love and light and positive vibes, a portion of my mental is dedicated to just being aware of that person. Communication, consideration and thoughts about them or something they recently said take up more of that processing power. That’s not a bad thing! When you’re with someone you love, you should have a good amount of your active mental and your subconscious focused on your interaction with that person. Connection and the bond you are making with them are immensely important for your fulfillment and enjoyment in life. If there is someone in your space that you don’t necessarily feel that way about, there will likely be even MORE processing power dedicated to them, but in a not so positive way.

We all have that positive love and light person chattering in our head from time to time, as well as the dude on the other end of the spectrum. I believe our inner voices can take up just as much, and in some cases more processing power than an actual human in your space. If I’m going through the day with a positive voice in my head, encouraging, motivating and cheering me along, I’m flying through the day with an amazing flow! Just picture a physical person close by, and every time you pass them, they’re saying things like “whoooa, you got all that done! Hell yeah dude!”, “That’s an awesome idea!! Write that down NOW!!” or “Aaaah it’s alright, look at all you have to look forward to!”. That actual real person or just your imaginary chatty self-talk can use that CPU to be uplifting and send you on an upward spiral!

But if you notice your self-talk becoming more negative and you’re not appreciating the joyful things around you, nip that in the bud, bud! You’ll notice a massive change, even doing the same exact things in life, when you have a smooth flow that you only tap into with that positive talk. When this happens to me, I sit down and just have a talk with myself about why I got into that state of mind, usually rationalize why that’s not productive and he needs to change his damn tone, throw on some funky jams and dance my way out of it. Get that guy out of here before he grows and hogs all the precious CPU!

NEW DISCORD STUFFS!

We hit 800 members on Discord this past week! WHOOOA! What an amazing group of beautiful bright souls over there! I recently added my good personal friend, Discord wizard and general technology extraordinaire, @rwnt. (kb) to the mod squad, and he introduced me to a new widget we can play around with!

We added a “Vibes” voice channel, where the “Pancake” app lives! Pancake has a variety of simple tools and features, but we’ve been using it mostly for an interactive/listen along music sesh for all in the channel. Though it is technically a voice channel and I wouldn’t restrict anyone from using their soulful pipes, it is intended to mute your own mic and vibe out to the tunes that are on deck. You can use simple search commands, like “p!search Miley Cyrus” in the Vibes channel to ask Pancake to fetch a song for you! I believe it pulls from Spotify, and searching an artist name like in the example will list the 5 most popular songs from that artist that you can choose from. You can also search for an artist and song if you have a more specific request. It will add your song to the queue, so you can share your musical interests with others in the channel and check out some of their music as well! I plan on hopping in there to jam out when I hit the lab! After a few searches, you can use the command “p!autoplay” to continue playing similar music after the queue is cleared.
