With yesterday being April Fools day, I was suspicious of all Tom foolery. Totally not buying into any unbelievable news (which is nearly impossible these days). My BS meter was on high alert- accurate and sensitive. I made it through several headlines and texts from friends without letting my guard down. Alas, right before I called it a night….I got got. Gaaah so close! If you too fell victim to Tom’s foolery, help me feel better about myself and let me know on Discord, email, snail mail or carrier pigeon.

Speaking of pigeons! I actually haven’t seen any pigeons in a while (unless you count Pigeons Playing Ping Pong), BUT! I have been enjoying listening to the sweet sounds of birds chirping in the morning. I am no bird watcher…little jaspers are stealthy! But I have come around to bird LISTENING with the help of an app called “Merlin”. All you do is press record and it shows you all the birds you’re hearing! It highlights the bird name and picture when it hears it’s chirp, allows you to go back and play what specific sound it was making and even allows you to call back to them! Currently not sponsored by Merlin, but wouldn’t mind it if you know a guy on the inside…

A couple weeks ago, I mentioned my up and down rollercoaster with sugar, which, unfortunately, I am no stranger to, being 30 years into this diabetic game. But I did make some interesting progress I’d like to share. This likely won’t have any effect on you being a HFPP (High Functioning Pancreas Person) I’d just like to pat myself on the back real quick.

Just as I did a couple weeks ago that threw my whole Wednesday off, I woke up with low blood sugar a few days ago. Usually when that happens, I take advantage of the opportunity to have some sweets I wouldn’t normally indulge in. About half the time it works out, the other half, I over indulge and start the pendulum swing. BUT NOT THIS TIME! Thanks to a very kind gift from @SuboticMars with a jar of local honey, I grabbed a spoon and carefully scooped out just the perfect amount (in my professional diabetic opinion) to set me straight without going overboard. As I patiently waited for it to take effect (usually about 20 minutes), I was thinking about this “dose” of honey, specifically with that phrasing. I’ve always said and known that sugar is a drug, but this made me think about it differently. Instead of looking at cookies and cakes and other scrumptious sweets as just a nice way to treat myself, I started viewing them as a drug. I mean, they’re still a great treat, but all too often, I would go back for more…and more…and more….and self control just goes out the window when it comes to sugar. I’ve started asking myself, “how much do you want to dose yourself with this sugar” and it makes me more intentional with what I’m eating. It went from purely satisfying my taste buds to putting some thought into how I want to feel with what I’m putting in my body and the after effects. Not that I’ll never overindulge again, but since I’ve changed my way of thinking, I really haven’t had any cravings for that demon sugar drug! And now that I’ve put it out there, I’m sure a cake will show up at my door or something to really test me. Bring it ooooon!!!!

Alrighty…switching gears. Earlier this week, in the middle of the day, I had a very intense and powerful meditation. You really thought I was going to get through a post without mentioning meditation? Think again! Anywho….I had a really wild experience, and almost right after I snapped back to reality, I just got back to life…laundry or grains or whatever. It made me think about how that’s pretty much always been how I go about my day. Whether my meditation is relatively light or suuuper deep….I just go right into the day right after without much reflection or integration. Then I put my entire focus and awareness into that next task. I’m all in, completely in the moment. Nothing wrong with that, but I wanted to get a take from a spiritual friend of mine on integrating the meditation experience with laundry or whatever life pulls me to after sitting.

I gave my buddy a call…we’ll just call him John Smith for privacy reasons. He answered the phone and before I was able to ask my question, he went on an unprovoked spiel answering exactly what I was about to ask! Flabbergasted…amazed….but also…of course. We had a long winding road of a conversation revolving around this, but in summary, we came to the conclusion that instead of integrating, it was more like merging. He said he splits off his awareness and his focus. After being in the blissful “be here now” state of meditation, he keeps that frequency as his awareness, but shifts his focus to laundry. Not really like being on autopilot, but putting your all into whatever task you’re on, while maintaining the same state you were in while meditating. I was thinking about it all wrong! I was trying to separate the two and apply lessons learned during meditation into life. Actually when I write it out, that’s really not wrong at all, BUT! I have a new perspective on it now, learning to overlap the meditation mindset with the focus of a real life task in ultimate be here now blissdom.

I mean…everything I write on these things is a random tangent. Just wanted to share something that’s slightly off topic. Also slightly on topic.

Normally, I throw on some good ol Dass of Ram while doing these Wednesday shindigs, but for some reason, today, I decided to have a chance of scenery and go to my local coffee shop to type away. Twas an exquisitely nice day today with a mere 11% chance of rain on the forecast, so I hopped on my bike and headed over. Had a very nice time with a good handful of lovely interruptions (self imposed), chatting with the squad over there. I wrap up, pack up and head out, only to get on my bike right when it starts pouring down rain. Like buckets. I’m pretty much blind the whole way back, soaking wet, laughing uncontrollably like the mad man I live up to, shouting “11% huh? 11%! 11 freakin perceeeennnnttt!!!! 11% my ass!!” to all cars passing by. Luckily I love the rain and some of my most memorable and enjoyable bike rides have been in the pouring rain. I get back inside, change my clothes and turn on the Ram Dass Lofi stream, which plays random lectures with chill beats in the background. The first words that play are him saying “that’s how you be with God while doing the dishes”. So close to laundry!! And the chill track playing in the background was titled “underwater”. How fitting. Man, life is gooood <3
