Happy belated mushroom day Scooby goobers!
Yesterday was a BLAST! It was a lot of fun hanging with everyone on Discord and giving away…pretty much everything! So many amazing souls making connections with each other and grabbing things that could help them out in the hobby. A few kind folk even anonymously bought supplies for someone in need who wasn’t so lucky during the giveaways, and @MrBungle donated a 23 qt. Pressure Cooker! You guys really made my heart smile yesterday and I’m glad you’re here 🙂
In case you missed it, I made a short clip (on a Motorola Razr) of what happens when I run out of supplies to fulfill an order and sent it to the recipient (@LeviathansKeeper on Discord) just to be goofy. I didn’t expect a follow up from him, but since I did (and with his permission), we have a complete record of it’s travels and adventures, and I thought it was appropriate to share on this lovely mushroom day. I often talk about healthy habits and trying to be free from attachment. Having attachment to anything is not truly being free. But even having attachment to those healthy habits can be a hindrance on your journey. I used to have a “recipe” for a good day. If I do this and take this and think this and breathe this way and yadda yadda, boooyyy you’re in for one helluva good day sir. Not a bad groove to get into…I’ve felt my absolute best reaching my highest potential when I’m consistent with a routine I know is good for me. But the more you become attached to a certain recipe almost destines it to change. It’s like Schrodinger’s cat with expectations instead of observation. As soon as I’m complacent in my life feeling like I’ve cracked the code on what guarantees an outcome, that outcome changes. The whole recipe changes and needs adjusting. I have to remind myself from time to time to just keep doing what I know to be nourishing to my soul and not be attached to the practice or the outcome.
Suffering, as uncomfortable and difficult as it may be, is necessary. If you hit your finger with a hammer, your nervous system sends a (loud) message to your brain saying “whoa dude, I’m in pain”. You may hold that finger with your other hand subconsciously to protect it. And when you use that finger for the next week, you feel pain or at least some discomfort, telling you to take it easy with that one and allow it to heal. If we didn’t have these signals, we could further damage ourselves and end up worse off than if we listened. Sometimes internal suffering is a message that something is off, unbalanced or needing attention. And if you’re stubborn like me, sometimes a strong message of suffering is the only way to get through to that monkey brain to say “hey, change the recipe!” Have an open mind. Challenge yourself. Think outside the box and don’t get complacent. Push yourself in ways that may be uncomfortable, but true to your highest self. Embrace that suffering for what it is, because even if we can’t see it in the moment, suffering is grace.
I had a few Discord friends ask me yesterday if I was ok. Pretty sure because they were unaware of THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY and why I was giving away the farm lab (thank you for checking). And after reading over the suffering bit, that probably doesn’t help any concerns. But I am indeed “ok” 🙂 I am not suffering in the least. I am a little winded from a dance off I just had with myself (I won), but I’ll manage. I know there’s always suffering out there and so many miss out on the opportunity to work with it, learn from it, and transform it into the next chapter of your beautiful life. Like the spores of a mushroom, that blurb flowed through me and I felt like someone needed to hear it. You are amazing in so many indescribable ways. You are important, you are worthy and you are loved my friend. Remember to take time for yourself.
Your level of performance will never be significantly higher than your belief about your ability. You’re a frickin’ badass. You got this. I love you.
There’s an exciting one returning to the library today! I underestimated the popularity of this one in recent months and allowed it to have a short lapse in the shop, but with mucho care and love, NATALENSIS IS BACK!! This was the first “exotic” or non-cube variety that expanded my interest in other mushroom species and it does not disappoint! And word on the street is we may have a non-overlay variant of Natalensis coming soon too! Patience young grasshopper.
