DIY Grains Kit
- Description
A great way to dip your little toesies into the wonderful world of making your own grain bags. Beware, once you do this stuff on your own, your house may be entirely consumed with the production and storage of said grain bags. This *may* change your life.
Both Milo (sorghum) and Millet are available in 5lb and 10lb sizes. Both are fantastic grains and full of nutrients mycelium loves.
A 5lb dry bag of grains should yield around 8lb of cooked grains, ready to inoculate, or 4 typical 2lb bags! And if my math is correct, a 10lb bag will get you 16lb of grains after hydration, or 8 typical 2lb bags.
These are priced the way they are to encourage beginners to take the next step on doing things on their own. My main mission has always been getting as many people as possible to start growing and to make it as affordable as possible. If you need a ton, talk to me and let me help you find a grain supplier! This should be just for your first time or two so you don't have to commit to a 50lb bag elsewhere. Once you know what you're doing, you have your wings...go that route.
I use Unicorn brand bags, most commonly the "4T" type for 2lb sized grain bags. The only other things you need are water and something to sterilize with! A Pressure Cooker or autoclave is best, but you can get by with an Instapot. I'll include instructions on how I do things 🙂
